What The Fox Megaways Pokie Reviewed

Instead of focusing on translating what a fox says, Red Tiger delivered a release that is all about glitzy neon light, black limos, and cash. Simply put, Kiwi players can look forward to a night out in style.

Game Symbols

I have never gone partying with foxes, but I guess this is what it would look like. In addition to flashing neon lights, the pokie’s backdrop is a typical Las Vegas scenery. A fox is gawking at the whole scene from what appears to be a billboard, sporting some cool shades.

Low-paying symbols come in a neon style, perfectly matching the overall appearance. The same goes for higher-paying icons, although their design is more meticulous. Golden tokens, Chevies, rolls of bucks, cigars, whisky, and dice aren’t something I would usually associate with foxes, but I would sure like to have them on my night out in Sin City.

The playboy fox acts as Wild, while Gold Bar Scatters serve as the ticket to the bonus round.

Grid Layout & Gameplay

As the title hints, What The Fox Megaways uses the popular mechanic from Big Time Gaming. The action takes place on a 6-reel, 7-row grid, with the number of winning ways ranging from 64 to 117,649 per spin. Regular symbols pay for 6 or more, awarding prizes from as low as 1.20x up to 20x times the bet.

A cascade mechanic removes the triggering symbols from the reels once a winning combination is formed. New symbols drop onto the empty positions for a chance of creating consecutive wins.

The volatility is high, while the RTP at 95.66% is somewhat below the average. Betting starts at $0.10, while the maximum amount of money players can spend per spin is $100. The pokie’s win potential of 10,487x the stake is quite impressive if I’m honest.

Features in What The Fox Megaways

A night on the town usually involves plenty of excitement, especially in the company of such a suave fox. Although I expected more when it came to the features on offer, I wasn’t disappointed. Again, adding a feature or two more would add more zest to the overall experience.

Willy Wilds

Willy Wilds appear on the reels in both the main game and bonus round, and that’s the moment when you’ll meet the foxy protagonist of the show. These are Wild symbols, meaning they perform their usual duty of replacing other regulars to help create more wins. I was screaming “far out” when I first saw Willy Wilds in action, as they come with a multiplier of 7x each.

Up to 3 of these Wilds can appear on a single spin. When that occurs, their multipliers multiply each other. This can throw a fantastic multiplier of 343x into play. I don’t know about you, but I would be stoked to see something like that.

Foxy Spins

Gold Bar Scatters are known as Foxy Spin symbols, but they still have a familiar role. When 3 or more find their place on the reels on the same spin, they will spin the bonus wheel to determine the number of spins. The Foxy Spins bonus round can start with up to 20 free spins, while the multiplier starts at 1x.

During Foxy Spins, the multiplier goes up by 1 after each consecutive cascade. Its maximum value is 20x, but the best part is that it doesn’t reset between spins. When a new Foxy Spin symbol appears on the grid, it will add another spin to the count. This ensures the bonus round is dynamic, while the growing multiplier can lead to handsome payouts.

My Recap of What The Fox Megaways

Although it doesn’t offer anything new, at least from a technical point of view, What The Fox Megaways is an appealing release.

The base game has a nice flow, emphasized by the funky soundtrack and neon-lit visuals. Cascading Reels add more excitement by forming consecutive wins and significantly boosting the pokie’s win potential.

Willy Wilds are very effective, particularly as their multipliers can multiply each other, leading to staggering rewards.

I didn’t find anything new about the bonus rounds, albeit progressive multipliers provide a valuable head start. However, triggering free spins wasn’t easy and did require a bit of patience.

The max payout of 10,487x the stake is pretty good, even for a highly volatile pokie such as this. I was hoping for a bigger win potential since, after some time, the gameplay becomes repetitive. Hence, my rating is 8.3 out of 10.
