As you all know, Nolimit City usually offers pokie machines packed with additional features. That is also the case with The Border. Apart from the Cascading Reels feature, you will find different xMechanics features developed by Nolimit City.

You can also enjoy 2 types of free spins. You even have the option to buy features or increase your chances of triggering free spins in the base game.

Cascading Reels feature

Each time you land a winning cluster, you will trigger Cascading Reels. Winning symbols are removed and new icons land on vacant cells to give you a chance to pocket multiple wins in a single spin.

xWays feature

When the xWays icon appears on the reels, it will transform into 2 or 4 instances of a randomly chosen regular icon. If more xWays symbols appear on the same spin, all xWays transform into the same symbol.

xSplit feature

The xSplit icon lands on all reels but the 1st. The icon transforms into a Wild and also splits all symbols on the left, doubling them in size. It also splits Scatters. With multiple xSplit icons on the grid, you can boost the win multiplier up to 64x.

xNudge Cluster Wild feature

The xNudge Cluster Wild nudges both up and down when part of a winning cluster. For each nudge, it increases the win multiplier by 1x. All symbols that carry an x Multiplier value will also be affected by the xNudge Cluster Wild.

When the xSplit symbol splits the xNudge Cluster Wild, the Wild will add its own multiplier to the overall multiplier.

xBomb Wild feature

The xBomb Wild substitutes for all regular icons and also removes all adjacent regular icons when the cascade is over. It increases the win multiplier by 1x for the next cascade. If the xBomb Wild is split by the xSplit icon, it will boost the win multiplier with the amount it’s been split into.

Mule Spins feature

American dollars are used as Scatters. When 6 of them appear on the grid, they will trigger 10 Mule Spins. If the xWays icon is within the winning cluster, cluster symbols on the same spin are infected before the xSplit and the xNudge are activated.

The xWays symbol will then infect them to split into 2 or 4 symbols, depending on the number of split symbols on the original winning cluster. Each new Scatter you land will grant you 2 extra free spins. In the Mule Spins feature, you can upgrade to the Coyote Spins feature.

For that to happen, you need to land enough extra Scatters. The xCluster feature is also active in Mule Spins. With 2+ unique clusters in the same cascade, you get a 1x multiplier upgrade for every unique symbol cluster from the 2nd cluster onwards.

It took me quite a while to trigger the feature in a traditional way. For my trouble, I was rewarded with a 24.3x win, which did not satisfy me. However, the second trigger was much better, delivering 202.15x. Also, I never managed to upgrade to Coyote Spins directly from the Mule Spins feature.

Coyote Spins feature

With 7+ Scatters on the grid, you get 12 Coyote Spins. Each additional Scatter gives you 2 extra Coyote Spins. The xCluster feature is also active here, just like in the Mule Spins feature. When xWays symbols infect the cluster, all other clusters are infected.

As for the xBomb Wilds, they will add their multipliers to all icons that carry the xx indicators and are not blown away. The xBomb Wilds will increase the overall win multiplier by 1x. The overall win multiplier in the Coyote Spins feature does not reset after a non-winning cascade.

I had the pleasure of triggering the Coyote Spins feature through the base game only once. However, I was generously rewarded for my trouble. I got 18 free spins in total (thanks to extra Scatters) and won around 660x in total.

Boosted xRIP feature

With the Boosted xRIP feature, you get a guaranteed Scatter on the 1st reel for every spin. However, this will cost you 50% of the total bet. I do not recommend it.

Bonus Buy feature

If you want to buy the feature, which I also do not recommend, the Mule Spins feature will cost you 98x the bet, while the Coyote Spins feature will require a staggering 914x the bet. The Lucky Draw option, which can get you one of the two features, costs 506x the bet.

I tested all 3 options and none of them resulted in satisfying payouts. I spent a total of $1,518 and won around $300 with all 3 options.
