Starburst Galaxy Pokie Review

Even though I am an action junkie, I am a huge fan of the original Starburst pokie. However, I often wondered what it would be like if Starburst came with loads of features. Fortunately for me, the good people of NetEnt had the same thing on their minds.

So, now we have Starburst Galaxy pokie. Just imagine how happy I was when I started testing the 2024 release. I couldn’t wait to have a taste of the Feature Generator, the Galaxy Star feature and Galaxy Meter, as well as the Megastar feature and the Multiplier Collect Meter.

Avalanche Feature

The Avalanche feature is activated each time you land a win. This will get you multiple wins in a single spin. Also, it helps you trigger the Feature Generator. With each winning avalanche, you contribute to the progress in the Feature Generator.

Wild Symbols

Each time you land a winning combo that does not include a Wild, it will produce a Wild symbol. When the winning combination disappears from the reels, a Wild will be placed in the centre cell for the next avalanche. This also gives you more chances to land a win on the next avalanche.

If you get all Wilds in a maximum cluster, they will deliver the maximum possible base game payout according to the Paytable. I had plenty of Wilds and they got me several rewarding payouts in the base game.

Feature Generator

With each 5 wins in a row, you will contribute to the Feature Generator and randomly get 1 of 5 available features. The Destroy feature removes 1 or more randomly selected types of symbols from the reels. The Random Wilds feature replaces 3-9 randomly chosen regular symbols with Wilds.

Expanding Wilds feature turns all Wilds on the reels into 3 Wild symbols stacked vertically. The Line Transform feature fills either a row or a reel with the same instances of a randomly chosen icon. The Upgrade feature upgrades 1 or more randomly selected types of symbols into a higher-paying icon.

I had so much fun with the Feature Generator. My favourite extra in this feature is the Expanding Wilds feature because it greatly affects your wins. The Random Wilds feature is also very good.

Galaxy Star Feature and Galaxy Meter

When you activate the 5th feature in the Feature Generator, you will also trigger the Galaxy Star feature. This will expand the grid to 7×7 and you get a 3×3 Wild on a random position on the reels. After you collect your wins, you also get 4-8 Random Wilds.

If you don’t get any win, then all remaining features from the Feature Generator are awarded. So, you are bound to pocket some wins, eh? Once you land the 3×3 Wild, the Galaxy Meter is activated. With each winning cluster, you contribute to the Galaxy Meter. Once the Meter reaches 50, you activate the Galaxy Star feature again.

The new Galaxy Star feature is activated only when there are no more wins to collect. After that, the Meter resets to 0 and you repeat the process. I triggered several Galaxy Star features and my biggest win here was around 150x.

Mega Star Feature and Multiplier Collect Meter

To trigger the Mega Star feature, you need 3 Scatters on the reels. You get a 2×2 Wild on a random position on the reels. It can only land on a position that does not contain a Wild already landed. After you collect your wins, winning symbols are removed and 2-5 Wilds are placed on random vacant positions.

Scatters that trigger the feature may come with different multipliers (2x, 3x, 5x, 10x, or 25x). These multipliers activate the Multiplier Collect Meter and all multipliers are added together. After that, the total multiplier is applied to all wins during the feature.

It is not easy to trigger the Mega Star feature. Even so, it can surprise you with massive wins. My biggest win here was around 200x.

Elevate Feature

This feature allows you to buy certain options. If you select the Bonus Boost, it will boost your chances of triggering the Galaxy Star feature for a price of 3x the bet. The Mega Star feature costs 10x the bet.

The Boosted Mega Star feature activates the Mega Star feature and the Multiplier Collect Meter for 50x the bet. At least 2 Scatters come with multipliers here. The Galaxy Star feature costs 100x the bet. For 500x the bet, you can buy the Galaxy Star Bonanza feature. This gets you the Galaxy Star feature with 5 features from the Feature Generator and a 2x-75x random multiplier.
