The Play’n GO product will give you a chance to visit all three kingdoms ruled by the brothers who defeated the Titans and locked up their father Cronus. One minute, you will be flying in the clouds, the next you will be exploring the depths of the underworld, or standing at the bottom of the sea.
The reel grid is always the same, it only changes locations each time a different god appears next to the reels. I failed to mention that there will be some of the gods standing next to the reels each time you push the Spin button.
Each of them will take you to his kingdom, so you will be switching worlds very often. Never mind, it will give you a complete picture of Ancient Greece.
Apart from being there to help you with their divine powers, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades also act as top-paying regular symbols. You can form winning combos with each deity separately, and you can also form winning combinations with different gods at the same time.
The Pegasus is Wild that substitutes for all icons on the reels. You will also see a harp, a helmet, a trident, and lightning. There are no simple playing cards. All symbols on the reels are theme-oriented, which I love.
According to the legend, gods can be cruel to humankind. Nevertheless, if you follow their simple rules, you will be just fine. Rise of Olympus is played on a 5×5 grid. To pocket wins, you need to connect at least 3 matching symbols either horizontally or vertically.
The betting range is quite standard for Play’n GO titles, going between $0.20 and $100 per spin. When it comes to payouts, the max possible win is 5,000x per spin. The Wild offers 50x for 5-of-a-kind. All 3 gods pay the same, 10x for the maximum combo.
With an RTP of 96.50% Rise of Olympus is a high-variance pokie machine.
As with almost every tale from Greek Mythology, Rise of Olympus is packed with additional features. If you are an action junkie like me, you will love the 2018 release. We have Cascading Reels, Random Wilds, Hand of God, Wrath of Olympus, and the Free Spins feature with 3 different options.
You all know about cascading reels. When you form a winning combo, the winning symbols disappear. However, instead of new icons appearing to fill the blank cells, the remaining symbols drop down and free cells remain free.
Remember that the task is to clear the grid to trigger freebies. With each winning cascade, the win multiplier, which starts at 1x, goes up by 1x. It resets after a non-winning cascade.
When you land a winning combo, winning symbols disappear. In the middle of the winning combo, a Pegasus Wild will appear and remain on the reels until the end of the cascade. It goes away when there are no more wins.
This feature proved to be extremely helpful. Multiple winning combos brought multiple Wilds, which help you clear the grid.
This is a random feature, which can only occur on a non-winning spin. Based on what deity is standing next to the grid, you can get help either from Zeus, Poseidon, or Hades.
Zeus will destroy 2 sets of any randomly chosen symbol. Poseidon adds 1-2 Random Wilds, while Hades transforms 1 set of symbols into another set. To be honest, they did not help me that much with turning a non-winning spin into a winning one. Usually, I got wins when Poseidon helped me.
You will notice a meter next to the grid. To fill it, you need wins with god icons. 3-of-a-kind will fill one segment of the meter, 4-of-a-kind will fill 2 segments, and 5-of-a-kind will fill the entire meter.
Once the meter is filled, you get 1 free spin with all 3 deities activating their powers from the Hand of God feature to help you. I triggered the feature maybe 5 times while I tested the game. It brought me a solid win once, 50x the bet. However, it has never helped me to clear the entire grid.
Once the grid is cleared, you trigger the Free Spins feature. You pick 1 of 3 options, including Zeus (8 free spins), Poseidon (5 free spins), and Hades (4 free spins). Whichever deity you select, you get his powers, which are activated on every non-winning spin.
During free spins, the win multiplier does not reset after a non-winning spin. It goes up to 20x. Again, you can fill the meter to get additional free spins, up to 20. Hades gives you 4 extra free spins each time you fill the meter. Zeus delivers 2, and Poseidon 3.
Every time you clear the grid during free spins, you will pocket 100x. I can tell you that clearing the grid is very hard. I did it only twice. However, on both occasions, I was generously rewarded for my trouble. I picked Poseidon both times because I love Random Wilds. Poseidon got me 1,250x the first time and 2,000x the second time.
I am happy to say that in this pokie machine, I have combined several of my biggest passions. First, I got an action-packed pokie. Also, I got Greek Mythology with a hint of epic fantasy, which I simply adore.
So, I will maybe be too subjective when I grade the Play’n GO title. Rise of Olympus offers everything I am looking for in a pokie machine.
The 2018 release is fun to play, it will surprise you with tasty payouts now and then, and is pleasing to the eye. What more could you ask for in a game, eh? If you don’t believe me, believe thousands of other players who consider Rise of Olympus one of the best Play’n GO titles of all time.
That is why I will rate Rise of Olympus 8.9.
