If you follow Rick and Morty on their adventures like I do, you know what to expect. You’ll first notice the familiar faces and instantly recognisable visuals from the popular television show.
As soon as the game loads, you’ll feel like you’re playing a cameo in one of the episodes. The developer did a great job of capturing the immersive atmosphere of the world of Rick and Morty, with top-notch animations adding distinctive touches. The soundtrack is another piece that perfectly fits into this puzzle.
The paytable is a bit crowded, as it features 13 paying symbols. Playing cards account for nearly half of them, with the remaining ones featuring the characters from the show. Rick and his alternate version take the central stage and, together with the TV show logo, award the most generous prizes. In addition to regular symbols, Kiwi players will encounter Wilds, Scatters, Cash and Collect Symbols.
The pokie developed by Blueprint Gaming uses a 6-reel, 4-row grid with 4,096 paylines. And while low-value symbols require at least 3 of a kind to form a winning combination, higher-paying icons pay even for 2 matching symbols on the reels. Of course, all wins are created by landing symbols of the same kind across adjacent reels, from left to right.
When it comes to claiming bucks, lows pay between 1x and 1.5x the bet for 6-of-a-kind wins, while other award prizes range from 2x to 5x the triggering stake for the same number of symbols in a combo.
Volatility is medium to high, while the game offers multiple RTPs. The default value, and the highest one, is 95%. Rick & Morty Strikes Back accepts bets from $0.10 to $25 per spin, with the top payout worth 10,000x. That’s significantly lower compared to the other two Rick and Morty slots from Blueprint Gaming, which paid up to 50,000x.
There’s no shortage of extras in Rick & Morty Strike Back, which should, at least in theory, guarantee action-packed gameplay and lots of winning opportunities. I made sure to put the pokie to the test and see whether this was true.
There’s nothing particularly exciting about Wilds, as they function in a typical way, replacing regular symbols to help create more wins. The only thing worth mentioning is that they don’t appear on reel 1.
Cash symbols jump into action on every spin and are active on all reels. If Cash or Cashpot Symbols appear on the grid together with a Collect Scatter, they’ll trigger the Cash Collect feature. It’s the perfect opportunity to take a shot at winning a fixed jackpot. These are Mini, Major, and Mega Jackpots worth 20x, 200x, and 2,500x the bet, respectively.
The portal gun can appear on any spin, although it will be a rare sight in practice. However, whenever it happens, it will activate the Portal Strike feature, giving you the chance to choose a modifier. They are quite useful, adding additional Cash Symbols or boosting their values and holding them for a respin. Some modifiers can even collect all Cash Symbols, while others add extra Scatters to the reels. Rick himself can appear on the reels, changing symbols to produce a winning combination.
Landing at least 3 Scatters triggers Free Spins. This sounds straightforward, but actually, there’s plenty going on here. Essentially, Kiwi players can choose from 4 individual rounds, although their initial choice is limited. Triggering Free Spins for the first time will let you choose between Rick C-137 and Morty Spins. Once you play both of these features, you’ll gain access to Evil Morty Spins and Rick Prime Spins. It may sound confusing, but it’s pretty simple in practice.
This round has no cash, Cashpot or Collect Symbols, with the new Rick C-137 starring as the highest-paying icon. Wilds are added to the Rick C-137 Trail, and three gathered symbols boost the value of the top-value symbol.
If you want to make the most of Cash, Cashpot and Collect Symbols, this should be your choice, as only these are active. Additionally, the Morty Multiplier is also available, increasing any potential wins. Land more than one multiplier to add together their values.
In addition to Cash, Cashpot and Collect Symbols, the round features the Evil Morty icon. A Collect Symbol appears on every spin, together with a Cash or Cashpot Symbol, meaning you’re guaranteed a win. Evil Morty doesn’t land frequently, but when it does, it can boost the values of Cash symbols or collect all cash prizes to add them to the Collect Symbol.
No Cash Cashpot and Collect Symbols in this round. The Rick Prime Symbols enters the scene as the highest-paying icon. Wilds are added to the Rick Prime Trail, with 3 of them removing the lowest-paying symbol from the grid. It’s possible to eliminate all symbols up to the top-paying one, although you’ll need significant help from Lady Luck.
Blueprint Gaming introduced the Rapid Fire Jackpots system, which made its way to Rick & Morty Strike Back, while the version featuring this jackpot was launched in July 2024. The Rapid Fire Jackpots Bonus can be activated on any spin by landing at least 5 Rapid Fire Symbols. You spin the wheel to win either a multiplier or one of the available jackpots.
Rick & Morty Strike Back is a great-looking slot. The development team has executed the popular theme to perfection, at least when it comes to visuals. Of course, the game has many other pros, like a wide range of features, fixed jackpots and payouts of up to 10,000x.
The win potential is significantly lower than the other Rick and Morty slots from Blueprint Gaming. I don’t mind that, but one aspect did bother me and influenced my final rating of this title. Although there are 4 Free Spins rounds, you essentially have the 2 main ones and their upgraded versions. The gameplay slightly differs, but pretty much delivers the same experience. And after a while, everything becomes repetitive.
In addition, Free Spins are not easy to trigger. A Bonus Buy feature could have offset this, but unfortunately, you’ll have to be patient and wait for your Scatters to do their job.
