The Kraken comes from Norse mythology. The Vikings believed that there was a giant squid attacking their ships. Did you know that the Kiwis are one of the rare people who have the opportunity to see the Kraken in the flesh?
Well, not actually the Kraken, but a colossal squid that can be seen at the Museum of New Zealand. When I think about the Kraken, I usually remember the famous Pirates of the Caribbean movie that includes Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones.
You will not come across either Johnny Depp or Bill Nighy in Kraken’s Hunger slot. But you will see the Kraken, which acts as a Wild. Merchant ships are used as prize symbols that appear both in the base game and in free spins.
And, since this is a pirate story, you simply need to have a ghost pirate captain. He is riding his ship with his treasure chest. He stands by his helm and looks through his spyglass, waiting for new ships to plunder. The Kraken with the compass is the Scatter that triggers free spins.
Controlling the Kraken can be extremely difficult. That’s why only a few experienced pirates have managed that. Kraken’s Hunger pokie is played on 5 reels. You can activate either 3, 4, or 5 rows, which gives you 5, 10, or 20 paylines, respectively.
Of course, the number of lines determines the minimum price of every spin. The betting range goes from $0.05 to $50 per spin. It can go up to $75 if you activate the Chance x2 option. The slot pays left to right, starting from the leftmost reel. 3-of-a-kind is the minimum for landing payouts.
With an RTP of 97.20%, Kraken’s Hunger slot is of medium variance and offers 5,000x max payout.
When attacking ships, the Kraken breaks them and pulls them down to the bottom of the sea, alongside its treasures. That’s why there are so many treasure hunters now with their private submarines.
The Kraken in BGaming’s title will not drag the riches to the bottom. It will leave it to you. First, you need to trigger free spins. You can also plunder ships yourself during the base game by landing them on paylines. The Kraken Wild only appears during free spins.
Prize symbols are actually ships. You have 3 types of prize symbols, carrying 2x-3x, 4x-6x, or 10x-20x multipliers. They appear both in the base game and during free spins. To collect these prize symbols in the base game, you need to land at least 3 of them on a payline, beginning from the leftmost reel.
I have plundered my fair share of ships while I tested the Kraken’s Hunger pokie. My biggest individual win in the base game was 36x.
The Free Spins feature is the central attraction of the 2024 release. With 3+ Scatters on the reels, you get 10 free spins. That’s when the real fun begins. Each time you land the Kraken Wild and any of the ship prize symbols, you collect all values from the ship.
Prize symbols appear on all reels but the first in the Free Spins feature. If you land 2 Wilds on the reels at the same time, both of them will collect the prizes, giving you double wins. You also collect Kraken Wilds during free spins. Each time you collect 4 Wilds, you get 10 extra free spins. The first retrigger will get you 10 free spins with a 2x multiplier on all wins.
The second retrigger comes with 10 free spins and a 3x multiplier. The third retrigger delivers another 10 free spins and a 10x multiplier. In total, you can get 40 free spins with some delicious multipliers. I went all the way and triggered 40 free spins with a total win of 880x.
This option gives you more chance to trigger free spins but I do not recommend it. I activated it for 50 spins and nothing happened. It only made my spin more expensive.
For 75x the bet, you can buy the Free Spins feature. Again, I do not like this option because it usually costs more than it is worth. I tried it several times and the most I won was 45x.
The Kraken is a scary creature but I wouldn’t mind having one when I start roaming the seven seas, looking for merchant ships, eh? Especially when the top prize is 5,000x.
The Free Spins feature is my personal favourite in Kraken’s Hunger pokie. It is not that easy to trigger but once you do, you are in for a treat!
I also like the prize symbols in the base game. They appear often and deliver decent payouts. Maybe it’s because of the 97.20% RTP, which is way higher than the industry average.
To sum it up, I rate Kraken’s Hunger slot 8.4.
