Vikings have a special place in Yggdrasil’s esteemed game portfolio. The franchise’s previous editions included Vikings Go To Valhalla, Vikings Go Berzerk, Vikings Go Berzerk Reloaded, Vikings Go Wild, and Vikings Go To Hell. Players familiar with the assets of these games should know what to expect from Yggdrasil.
The game is set in Egypt, which is always a popular background for a fight. The Land of the Pharaohs is an excellent destination for a game, and I was drawn in from frame one. Crisp, sharp visuals were a treat, and a traditional soundtrack perfectly accompanied them.
As expected, it did not take me long to get immersed in the atmosphere. The medium volatility struck me as odd, though. I did not expect the game with such a high-octane feel to have well-balanced risk and reward.
An excellent set of features makes the game exciting, no matter how long you play it. I was on the edge of my seat during the entire run. Every element the gameplay offers, from Free Spins and Prize Chests to Rage Collection, has charming perks.
Still, I have a bone to pick, for the pokie might have been even better. The biggest flaw is the default RTP of 94%, going far below the industry standard. Moreover, the Viking theme is not the freshest in the book, as many similar games are already there.
The battles will play out on a 5×4 grid, and the medium variance promises few chills and thrills despite all the adrenaline. The game has 25 fixed paylines, and the optimal RTP amounts to 94%, which is below the acceptable value.
Four angry Vikings are the premium symbols, granting 6x to 10x the stake for a full payline of five matching icons. Wild symbols replace all the regular icons in winning combinations, while Scatter symbols activate the Free Spins round.
We can expect similar symbols to the previous games, with the Vikings as premium icons. You can start playing with $0.45, while the highest wager amounts to $222.53, and the default bet is $4.45. The maximum win is 4,375x the bet.
The game has numerous features, including Chests, Rage Collection, Wild Fight, Free Spins and Bonus Buy. The Free Spins round can bring many surprises.
The silver chest symbols appear on the fourth reel and contain cash prizes of 2x-40x or 7, 14, or 21 free spins. Silver chests can also award 2-4 more spins or 1-2 extra Wilds in free spins. Furthermore, the golden chest occupies the rightmost reel, containing 10x-400x the stake, 7, 14, or 21 free spins, Ragnarok Free Spins or Rage Boost + 25%.
In the Free Spins round, the golden chest can contain a cash prize, 2-4 spins, 2 extra Wilds, or a Wild Reel. When a chest lands on a Sticky Wild, both become active.
Each win achieved with a Viking collects Rage for the Viking in question, with bigger wins generating more Rage. Filling the meter triggers the Free Spins with the Viking in Berzerk mode. I was pleasantly surprised to find out one of the Vikings had his meter filled up to over 50% upon entering the game.
When a Viking is in Berzerk mode, he always defeats Cleopatra, becoming a Sticky Wild. The Berzerk mode can be activated by filling the meter or triggering Ragnarok Free Spins.
Landing 3 to 5 Scatters will trigger the round with 7, 14 and 21 spins, respectively. While it was not possible to retrigger the round, the Wilds turned sticky for its entire duration. If the Vikings hit the reels, they start the Wild Fight against Cleopatra, turning into Sticky Wilds if they win.
Before the Free Spins round begins, one of the following features comes into play – Ragnarok Free Spins, 1-3 extra spins, 5 silver chests, 5 golden chests, Extra Wild or Wild Reel. I was delighted to see all Vikings are Berzerk in Ragnarok Free Spins, always turning into Sticky Wilds.
When buying the bonus round, I had 3 options: 7, 14 and 21 spins, each worth 40x, 120x and 260x the bet, respectively.
Vikings Go To Egypt Wild Fight might be more of the same when it comes to its style and game elements, but it is OK if you like it. I do, and the game’s diverse features put a smile on my face. The fighting sequences were excellent, and the gameplay was highly creative.
However, even though I like almost everything about the game, something new would not hurt it.
The Viking theme is a bit old, but I was particularly hacked off by the low RTP. Still, it was an enjoyable Egyptian expedition, and Yggdrasil did not disappoint me.
